Wegovy: NHS vs Private Prices.
NHS prescription or private pharmacy? How Wegovy access, eligibility and cost differ between the two routes in the UK.
Wegovy reached the UK with significant NHS backing — and significant restrictions. Here's how the two routes compare.
The NHS route
NICE guidance (TA875) recommends semaglutide for weight management within specialist NHS services, for people meeting specific BMI and health criteria, usually for up to two years. Eligible patients pay standard prescription charges; access is via referral, not walk-in.
The private route
Private providers assess and prescribe directly, with broader eligibility and faster access — at full private cost. Prices differ considerably between pharmacies: iGovy.co.uk tracks live Wegovy injection prices and oGovy.co.uk tracks the pill, both across registered UK pharmacies.
Safety doesn't differ
NHS or private, the pharmacy must be GPhC-registered. Verify in seconds at pharmacyregulation.org, or browse our verified directory.
